Zach has decided that naps are no longer something that he needs and it’s killing me. Ever since he was an infant I have looked forward to his nap time. When he was really young and not sleeping through the night I used his nap time to take a short nap myself. As he got older and started sleeping through the night I used that time to cook or clean up the house or even to catch an uninterrupted hour of reading or watching TV. So the first time Zach skipped his nap I mourned the loss of my quiet time and hoped that it wouldn’t become a habit. Now after a week in which he has napped a grand total of one time, for less than an hour, I’m finding that there is a bigger problem than loosing my quiet time. Zach without his daily nap is a total terror. After 6pm he starts getting cranky and whiny, he wont listen to anyone and all he does is yells no, no, no, to anything that we say. He doesn’t want to eat his dinner, fights me the whole time that I brush his teeth, and then he is so overly tired that he fights going to bed.
I just don’t know what to do with him anymore. I’ve tried everything to get him to nap and nothing works but obviously he still needs the extra sleep each day. I’m at the end of my rope and I can only hope that this is just a phase and that he will start napping again soon before I go completely insane.

I think we are nearing the days of the end of the nap with Jaymie too. I hear you, and I am sad with you. Can you start his bedtime routine at about 6pm and possibly have him down to sleep a lot earlier than usual so that you avoid the meltdowns and crankiness that comes along with no nap? Or how about a car ride during the day? Does that help him fall asleep?
I know your pain!
We may have to start putting him to bed earlier I just haven’t wanted to do that because Keith doesn’t get home until at least 6pm and some nights it is even later more like 9pm. If Zach doesn’t get to spend time with his daddy he is miserable. Car rides do put him right to sleep if he is at all tired but as soon as the car stops he wakes right up so that doesn’t help much. He has napped the past two days so maybe it was just a phase and now it’s over. I really hope so.
